Eymet is a town in Dordogne founded in 1270 by Alphonse of Poiters and like many of the French bastide towns, it was used as a defensive strategy against the English. The town has the usual bastide town layout where a central square and grid straight roads are present. It also has the remains of a defensive castle and fortified walls.
